Learn SEO: SEO Tips for Beginners

According to Google, 95% of all online searchers never go past the first page of results.
Ask yourself these two questions:
1. Is my website on the first page of results for my industry's major keywords?
If not...
2. What can I do about it?
If your website is not showing up on the first page of Google, Yahoo! or Bing for your industry's major keywords then your website is not receiving the traffic that it should be and your business is not acquiring as many leads as it needs to be.
As far as online searchers are concerned, if they don't see your website on the first page of results then it might as well not even exist.
Now, I'm sure that isn't the kind of news you want to hear after you invested all that time and money into your website. Fortunately there are things that you can do to improve your website's rankings. Keep in mind that some of the things we will talk about in this article take time and patience.
The following information is free advice on how to improve your search engine rankings.
SEO Beginner Tip 1: Title Tags
Title Tags are one of, if not the most important on-site SEO component. A webpage's title tag is located at the top of your internet browser.
A webpage's title tag tell the search engines, and the public, what they can expect to find on that page. Without proper title tags the odds of your page being ranked high for your industry's keywords are extremely low.
What you want to do is place your keywords in the title tags of your site's pages. Make sure that each page on your site has a unique title tag relating to the content on the page.
SEO Beginner Tip 2: Meta Data
Meta data is information that is hidden in the code of your site and that the search engines use to find out more information about each page on your site. This data, while not as important to search rankings as it once was, it still useful and should be added to each page of your website.
The first piece of meta information that you want to add to each page is called the "meta description."
The meta description is literally a description of what can be found on the corresponding page.
Your meta description should not only describe what can be found on the page, but also include a call to action. Being ranked high in the search engines is good, but if people are not clicking on your link then it doesn't matter how high you are ranked. You want to give people a good reason to visit your site.
Also, make sure that your meta description contains the keywords that you are optimizing that particular page for.
The next piece of meta information is your "meta keywords." Meta keywords are not used by Google anymore in regards to how they rank your site. There is some indication that Bing and Yahoo! still use them, but the weight that they give them in their search algorithm is very low. We still suggest placing these keywords in the code of your site because things change so much with the three major search engines and it is better to be safe than sorry. We may wake up tomorrow to find out that meta keywords are now important again and having to go through all your website's pages again to add them could take a lot of time. It's better to add them now and not have to worry about it later.
Your meta keywords should contain all the keywords related to your SEO campaign and all industry keywords that are related to that particular page regardless if you are optimizing for them or not.
SEO Beginner Tip 3: Internal Linking
Internal linking is not only helpful for search engine rankings, but it also allows your visitors to find other pages on your site that may not be reachable through your main navigation or easily found. Internal linking can also pass along link juice from one page to another on your site which can help with rankings.
You want to link the pages of your site together using anchor text links. An anchor text link is a link that uses a keyword instead of, for example, "click here."
Anchor text links tell the search engines what the page that the link leads to is about. You want to make sure that you use this technique to link the pages of your sites together. For example, if you were to write a blog post talking about link building techniques, you may link the phrase "link building techniques" to a corresponding page because you would want that page to be found for the keyword phrase "link building techniques."
SEO Beginner Tip 4: Content
Content is extremely important. Search engines love content. The content on your site needs to be unique, well written and contain useful information. It also needs to contain the keywords in which you are optimizing for and which are relevant to each particular page. Your should also be adding to the content of your site on a consistent basis. Stagnant sites, ones that never add content, for the most part, will not rank high. The easiest way to continually add content to your site is by adding a blog and posting at least once a month. The more often you post the better.
SEO Beginner Tip 5: Back Links
Back links, at this point, are still the most important off-site factor when it comes to where your site ranks. Gaining back links, however, is a time-consuming process and is one that needs to constantly be done in order to not only achieve high rankings, but also to maintain the rankings you have already achieved.
A few of the many different ways to gain back links are through blogging, business directory submissions, article marketing, press releases, commenting in forums and on other blogs, creating content on your site that people want to link to as well as simply asking other webmasters for links. The one thing you should never do is pay for links. All three major search engines frown upon that and doing so will get your site penalized in the rankings.
The above tips are very basic and meant for beginners.

How to Choose the Best Diet and Make the Program Work

What is the Best Diet and is there a simple answer to the weight loss question? The answer is no. I hate the word Diet because it means you will lose the weight and then continue with the eating habits that created the weight problem in the first place. Losing weight is hard, period. It takes a long time to put the extra pounds (sometimes it doesn't seem to take that long) so it only makes sense it will take a long time to take the weight off. What is a diet? It is the way you eat and the food choices you make. Not a quick fix, so all of the reviewed diets are only successful if you do the following:
1. Incorporate some form of exercise. This is key because not only will you burn more calories you will feel better and your heath will improve (this is far more important than the way you look!)
2. Have a support program and use it. Blog an exercise group (highly recommended). Lean on the resources to get you through the tough periods.
3. A diet or eating plan should be founded on solid principles and should not be a fad. Fad diets do not work! Yes you will lose water weight but a stomach virus does the same thing.
4. Learn how to make the right choices on your own. Research and determine what good choices are. I will write several blogs point to some great resources regarding Diet plans.
When you choose an exercise program, make sure you do something you enjoy. There will be times that you do not want to exercise, so have a variety to keep active during those times. Staying active is probably the #1 way to stay on a diet program and keep the weight off. You can lose weight by starving yourself but you want to lose weight for life.
If you know you have a busy life style, choose a diet and exercise plan that fits that life style. They have several options for meal delivery to your home. Don't get caught up in the ease of these plans and forget to understand how to make them work yourself.
Rely on friends and support groups to get you through the tough times. Have a workout partner and a diet partner. That way when you start to get off track the can bring you back. It works the other way as well. Hopefully you're both not having a bad week at the same time. If that's the case add more people.
Set goals for fitness not weight loss. Your weight loss will stagnate at times and this can be frustrating. Try to walk and certain distance, train for a 5k, or maybe a bike race. If you focus on your weakness your chances for success go down.
Dieting and weight loss is hard; hang in there and you will be glad you did.

The Best Length For Articles

There is no firm answer to the question of how long an article should be. There are, however, some principles you can follow.
For the most part, it's more difficult for people to read on a screen. Our eyes don't want to spend as much time reading online as we can do in print. We also have more distractions online. It's very tempting (as I'm sure you know) to click around and visit more sites. So your best bet is to keep things short.
How short is appropriate? A good idea is to keep things to about 300-500 words. Most people can read that in a few minutes, so it will keep their attention.
It will be even more effective if you take those 300-500 words and divide them into 2 or 3 sections with subheadings. This gives people the feeling of starting something new, and it sort of "resets" their attention span.
Even if a topic requires more in-depth attention, be careful not to go much beyond 1,000 words. For those more involved articles, something more like 700-900 words is appropriate. You can cover a lot more information in that span than you'd think. This article, for instance only has about 400 words.
The Importance of Location
Where you publish is just as important when considering article length as the topic you're writing about. If you're writing to promote your business (article marketing) and you're choosing sites like this one, or Yahoo Voice, then you'll be looking at a minimum of 400 words. That's partly because these sites are meant to inform (and create back links, of course).
If you're working on a site like HubPages, you can afford to go a bit longer. Readers there expect more thorough informative articles. HubPages isn't necessarily meant for heavy multimedia or affiliate linking. So you can feel free to go more in-depth and shoot for something 700 words or more. (Bear in mind, you have no need to write this much, if your topic doesn't need it.)
Sites like Squidoo are perfect for videos, pictures, links, and affiliate links. The text is important, no doubt, but you might actually have more success with less text and more videos and pictures. For Squidoo, you can shoot for 300 words, which can be combined across different text modules.
These are general guidelines, which you can adjust as you see fit, but it should help you get going.

Learning From The Ritz-Carlton Customer Service Philosophy

We can learn much from the Ritz-Carlton Gold Standard and their exceptional customer service philosophy and orientation. "Putting on the Ritz" has always meant top-quality, the best of the best. Where did they acquire this reputation? From their customers - and it is well deserved.
The Ritz-Carlton focuses on taking care of their customers and employees and this creates an amazing standard of customer service. In a recent independent survey, 99 percent of guests said they were satisfied with their Ritz-Carlton hotel experience and over 80 percent stated they extremely satisfied. The key to impressive customer service is to create loyal customers. Loyal customers return again and again to spend there money and are less price sensitive. Satisfied customers might return, but are equally likely to go anywhere else and seek out the lowest price. Therefore, satisfaction is virtually meaningless and only customer loyalty truly counts.
The Ritz-Carlton approach to employee and customer relations can teach us a lot about exceptional customer service. How could you apply these within your company?
o Ritz-Carlton lets customers know that they are valued and encourages them to make the client and customer service their top priority. Trainers and managers focus on making sure the staff is well versed in the Ritz-Carlton Gold Standards. For the Ritz-Carlton these Gold Standards are not a procedure, they are philosophy and a way of life.
o The Ritz Carlton provides managers and employees with 250 to 300 hours of training in their first year
o The Ritz-Carlton philosophy is that any employee who receives a complaint from a guest owns that complaint. First-line employees such as desk clerks, bellboys and housekeepers are empowered to spend up to $2000 to handle any customer complaints and managers can spend up to $5,000 without additional authorization.
o The Ritz-Carlton has a manual for quality improvement and problem-solving procedures. The manual contains approximately 1000 potential problems that a client could have during their stay and the appropriate procedure(s) for dealing with each of these challenges so that the client is exceptionally pleased with the outcome.
With businesses typically losing 20% of their customers each year, we should clearly be spending more time, money and energy on customer service and retention than we are on marketing to new customers. The typical business spends 90% or more of their funding and focus on marketing to new customers and 10% or less on retaining old customers. These numbers from a profit-perspective should look a lot more like 50-50 if you want to have the best reputation and the largest increase in customers and profits year-over-year.
Recommendations:
- Make sure your managers and leaders are teaching, practicing, promoting and living a customer service oriented philosophy/lifestyle.
- Clearly define your customer service standards and train your employees to follow through at the highest level
- Make exceptional customer service an important item on employee evaluations.
- Make sure your staff has the ability to resolve small customer complaints/challenges on their own - and train them to do this well.
- Identify specific problem areas that you are having in your company, brainstorm solutions and then provide additional training and support.
- Edward Deming once said "What doesn't get measured, doesn't get done." How do you measure your results?
- Customer questionnaires and surveys are key. Make sure you are asking open-ended questions that focus on customer Loyalty - Not satisfaction.
The Ritz-Carlton senior management knows that when employees are well trained they do a great job. And when employees feel they are doing a great job - they feel great at their job. This results in lower staff turnover, creates a positive environment and is a win-win for employees, management, clients, and keeps profits climbing. The Ritz-Carlton is a wonderful example of what a well run customer service focused organization can do when they create a customer service mindset and win-win philosophy at every level of the organization.

Why Gold Is Really A Form Of Money

For centuries, people knew that gold was the same thing as money. Within countless civilizations, the money that circulated on a day to day basis was often either gold itself, as gold and silver coins, or a currency backed by gold. Conditions like inflation and excessive debt were unlikely to occur as it is very difficult to manipulate gold. The only time these two things became problematic was whenever the government devalued the national currency with regard to gold. Even so, gold was well-known as a form of money.
The general population's image of gold was altered considerably during the 20th century. For example, the US dollar had been connected to gold since its inception. People understood exactly how many dollars it took in order to swap those dollars for a certain quantity of gold. But soon after the formation of the Federal Reserve, the connection between the dollar and gold began to change. Specifically, the Federal Reserve started to devalue the dollar in terms of gold, which meant that it took more dollars to acquire an equivalent amount of gold. And then the dollar was taken off the gold standard altogether in 1971, fully severing the connection to gold.
After the gold standard was abandoned, the US dollar became what is generally known as a fiat currency, which means that it is just a paper currency and only has value because the government says it does. Many other nations have adopted identical policies, and we now are now living in a world filled with paper currencies, which are all susceptible to inflation and devaluation. For generations, gold has been ignored as a real money form aside from a tiny minority of investors not part of the mainstream.
But now attitudes are changing yet again. Following the recent financial meltdown, this trend has started to reverse and people are starting to understand once again that gold has been used as a form of money for hundreds of years. And people are noticing once more that using gold as a form of money has some fantastic benefits. Firstly, there is no credit risk in gold, and you can be certain that the gold's value won't ever drop all the way to zero. Neither of these things can be said in regards to the main debt instruments and currencies in the world these days. Secondly, gold is bought and sold all over the world and is globally recognized for its value, and thus there is no liquidity risk in gold. Last but not least, gold will invariably fulfill at least a pair of very important human desires: the need for basic safety, along with the appreciation of beautiful objects.
And finally, there is this reason: when awful things occur, and the price of all sorts of assets fall, gold is likely to retain its value. It can guard you against inflation, and it can guard you from a significant crisis. In other words, gold is a great form of protection and insurance for your portfolio. A lot of people are beginning to uncover some of these positive features of gold, so it's no real shock that the price of gold is constantly climbing higher. With all of these benefits, isn't it time you looked at adding gold to your portfolio as well?.
Investing in gold is one of the wisest financial investments you could make, and investing in gold coins is easy. The Krugerrand is the official gold bullion coin of South Africa, and it has become one of the most popular gold bullion coins in the world. Learn How To Detect A Fake Krugerrand Gold Coin

If you are thinking of buying some gold Krugerrands, South Africa's official gold bullion coins, then it'd be a good idea to become familiar with this unique coin. Essentially, you really should develop the skills to determine if a Krugerrand is fake. Hopefully, you'll never need this skill, but it is good to have nonetheless and it's relatively easy to learn.
The easiest way to avoid purchasing a fake Krugerrand will be to deal only with a reputable vendor, particularly a coin seller who specializes in or has extensive experience with Krugerrand coins. These dealers will have been dealing with these coins for some time, and they should easily be able to notice when a coin doesn't feel right. What's more, reputable coin vendors will be concerned about their reputations, so they'll truly have an incentive to ensure that they only offer genuine gold coins.
While that is one step you can take, remember that it's also relatively easy to verify the authenticity of a Krugerrand on your own. Standards for these coins are published by the South African Mint and publicly available, so you can compare the coin you are thinking of buying with these standards. In addition, you should be aware that gold has some special characteristics that make it unique. Specifically, it has a very high density, higher than the other easily available metals. If someone does decide to create a fake Krugerrand fashioned out of one of these other, lesser metals, the weight differential should really be entirely noticeable if you know what it is you should be looking for. And you should be aware that the metals that are as dense as gold are either very difficult to acquire, very steeply-priced, or pretty brittle. All of this is in your advantage when attempting to spot a fake.
In terms of physical characteristics, this is what you should be looking for: a 1 ounce Krugerrand has a weight of 33.930g, a diameter of 32.77mm, a thickness of 2.84m, and 160 serrations around the edge. A half-ounce Krugerrand has a weight of 16.965g, a diameter of 27.07mm, a thickness of 2.215mm, and 185 serrations. A quarter-ounce Krugerrand carries a weight of 8.482g, a diameter of 22.06mm, a thickness of 1.888mm, and 150 serrations. And finally, a 1/10 ounce Krugerrand carries a weight of 3.393g, a diameter of 16.55mm, a thickness of 1.35mm, and 115 serrations.
In order to carry out these tests, you will want fine-grained ruler that has millimeter markings plus an accurate scale that can weigh in grams. As a substitute, there is also a very useful gadget known as the Fisch Tester that can test all of these things for you. It comes with a coin-shaped recess used for checking shape, a slot for checking a coin's thickness and diameter, and a fulcrum to check a coin's weight. The Fisch Tester will save you time and effort and can make it much easier for you to spot a phony. At the same time, you should be careful about buying a Fisch Tester on eBay because, in a twist of irony, there have been some reports of imitation Fisch Testers being offered there. To be safe, you may want to buy directly from Fisch.
Armed with this new knowledge, you should now have the capability to detect a phony Krugerrand on your own. Best of luck in your adventures in the gold market!
Making an investment in gold is truly one of the best financial investments you can make, and investing in gold coins is easy. The Krugerrand is the official gold bullion coin of South Africa, and it has become one of the most popular gold bullion coins in the world. Learn more about gold Krugerrands here, and you should also read the FAQ for buying Krugerrands.
