Recipes To Try That Utilize Coffee

Coffee can make a lovely addition to all kinds of recipes, from savory to sweet, and from dinner to dessert. The great thing about coffee is that it is readily available and very inexpensive. If you use this ingredient wisely you can have a wonderful meal, that is full of flavor, and does not break the bank!
Recently I tried a delicious meat rub that was coffee based. This rub is perfect for summer time and the warmer months of the year when barbecuing is a popular form of cooking. A simple rub that is delicious and adds lots of flavor is one that consists of: ground coffee, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper and ground cumin. You combine these five ingredients, that most people have on hand, and you have a delicious smoky and spicy rub that is perfect for steaks, chicken and lamb. The next time you are having friends over, try this rub and they will definitely be impressed!
Another idea to use ground coffee in a savory recipe would be to make a delicious coffee barbecue sauce. This is the perfect marinade and sauce from light cuts of meat such as pork, lamb and chicken. You can simply take your favorite store-bought barbecue sauce, or make it from scratch using the traditional ingredients of: ketchup, vinegar, light brown sugar, garlic and Worcestershire. The extra kick and unique ingredient you want to add next is brewed espresso or strong, dark coffee! This gives it a nice coffee kick and depth of flavor that you will not find in most barbecue sauces. Adding a gourmet twist to your everyday barbecued chicken or grilled lamb is as simple as adding some wonderful dark coffee.
Next is dessert. Coffee is used in a variety of desserts, the most famous being Tiramisu. Tiramisu is literally translated as "pick me up". This Italian dessert consists of lady fingers, marscarpone cream, cocoa and espresso or espresso liquor. This dessert is both light and also decadent at the same time. This makes it a wonderful sweet treat to serve anytime of year. When I make Tiramisu I like to mix espresso powder with the cocoa powder for an extra coffee kick. You can also add some brewed espresso to the marscarpone cream for even more delicious coffee flavor.
You can also use coffee and espresso to add just a bit of flavor to brownies, chocolate cake or any other chocolate based dessert you enjoy!
