Used Watches

Used watches are fast becoming a large part of the watch and jewelry market place.
Although there has always been used watches available, the amount on offer these days and the ease of acquiring them has sent sales through the roof.
Used watches are best purchased from a local jewelry store or reputable dealer because they have usually been restored and inspected by professional watch makers with swiss certification.
Buying from online auction sites is also an option, but does require care and research.
Jewelry stores and dealers usually acquire used watches from a variety of sources, but the following are the most typical methods of acquisition.
Trade in.
An increasing number of jewelry stores are now offering to accept used watches as part of a trade in deal against the value of a new watch. In this process a customer selects a new watch and then offers their old watch as part exchange against the price of the new watch. This is beneficial to both the customer and the retailer because the customer gets to pay less for the new watch and therefore pull back money from their old time piece. The retailer benefits because they sell the new watch without having to lose money on a discount and has a used watch to sell.
Estate.
Estate pieces come from private sales with the jeweler or dealer. Typically a relative of the customer may have passed away and they sell all the deceased jewelry and watches as part of a bulk lot to a buyer on behalf of the jeweler of dealer.
Close out.
Sometimes if a jewelry store is going out of business, it may contact associates and offer close out deals on merchandise. Typically a dealer will visit the store owner and make offers on any pieces he may still have in stock prior to closing or just after. These watches often find their way on to the used market.
