WoW Mage Guide - Magicians At War!

WoW Mage Guide
The Mage reminds me of the Warlock class to some extent, although really the two are completely different classes and play an entirely different role in the game. The Mage is a powerful spell casting class that can inflict heavy damage on their opponents as well as keep opponents under control with a number of different abilities.
Mages are also great for AoE (Area of Effect) damage, using several of their cool abilities. Mages are also able to control both NPC's and other players with Polymorph, Frost Nova and other similar abilities.
One slight disadvantage the Mage has is their armor, like Warlocks the Mage is equipped with just cloth armor which doesn't do much for survivability! To counteract the weak armor though, the Mage is equipped with some pretty nifty spells to keep opponents at bay. Mages can also cast an "ice block" which keeps them immune from any damage for a limited time.
Realistically the Mage is only going to serve one purpose and that's to deal damage at range and lots of it. The Mage is all but redundant for Tanking and Healing purposes but they do have many other useful abilities so they'll always be useful in groups and PvP teams.
The Mages Polymorph ability alone is great for controlling entire mobs as it transforms the opponent into a Sheep, Turtle, or Pig. Another really cool ability the Mage possesses is the ability to teleport between cities, however not only can the Mage create portals for themselves, they can even make portals for others to use the Mages ability to their advantage
A Mage will always be an advantage to a group as well due to the simple fact that they can conjure up food and water. Healers stand to benefit mutually from this ability as it will save them having to buy their mana drinks. This ability can also prove to be a time saver for the Mage as well as money saver.
One more nice ability that belongs to Mage, is the ability to buff there-selves with Arcane Intellect as well as cast Arcane Intellect on other party members.
Mage Guide - Talent Trees
Arcane Talent Tree
Fire Talent Tree
Frost Talent Tree
When using a combination of the Mages talent trees for a build the Mage is undoubtedly one of the best damage dealing classes. You'll find Mages throughout WoW that have specialized builds in any of the three talent trees as well as combinations of the three talent trees as they all have their advantages and disadvantages.
It really boils down to ones personal preference when choosing what build is best suited for your Mage. There are so many possible combinations of good builds with the Mage that it's advisable to test a few builds instead of solely basing your build on someone else's opinion.
If you're looking for a decent Mage leveling build then the Frost build is a pretty good choice as it stops the Mages mana from being consumed rapidly and there are a few decent abilities to be gained from the Frost talent tree, such as Ice Barrier and Water Elemental.
The Fire talent tree will mainly focus on the Mages single target damage, although there are two AoE spells that be can be acquire from the Fire tree.
Finally the Arcane build was never really feasible until Blizzard rolled out the Wrathe of the Liche King expansion. With this release Blizzard incorporated some new talents and a wider variety of damage attacks, which in turn meant the Arcane build was improved upon a lot.
Arcane is now used a lot for hybrid builds (Frost/Arcane, Fire/Arcane) and is well suited for both PvE and PvP and has become a popular build choice for both primary and hybrid builds.
